We describe two joint four-hour workshops for economics and mathematics courses, in which student groups prepare to enter an existing market for standardized test preparation tutoring services. Instructors generate price and quantity data which groups must analyze. Groups also conduct research on four existing firms, choose whether to offer synchronous in-person or asynchronous online tutoring, determine how much to borrow, produce a pricing strategy, and identify ethical concerns. Groups deliver short presentations on their strategy and write reflection essays. The workshops force students to consider topics such as cost structure, demand elasticity, oligopoly interactions, regression analysis, and pricing strategy.
