May 9, 2021We describe Presentations to the President (PTP), an active learning strategy for a Macroeconomic Principles course in which students take on the role of academic advisors to the President. In this assignment, student teams present in person to the President (i.e. the professor) on the current state of the economy and make policy recommendations in a formal boardroom setting without visual aids. The project gives students an opportunity to obtain several proficiencies including interpreting economic data; researching and analyzing policy information; and applying economic theories and concepts to current challenges and opportunities. We also discuss results from student surveys.
