August 22, 2025Amid declining enrollments and financial constraints, economics departments are exploring innovative teaching methods beyond traditional “chalk and talk” (Becker & Watts, 1996). While in-class games, simulations, and media have been used, video games remain underutilized. Video games enable students to apply economic principles, such as marginal analysis, sunk costs, scarcity, and profitability. This paper explores WWE 2K23’s General Manager Mode as a tool for developing decision-making skills, allowing students to engage with economic concepts interactively and competitively. Through gameplay, students can better understand and apply economic theory, enhancing their ability to think like an economist.
